Julian is the co-founder and co-Director of GCF, based in Namibia. He is the Co-chair of the IUCN SSC Giraffe & Okapi Specialist Group, the Conservation Advisor for the EAZA Giraffe EEP and has over 17 years of experience in species and habitat ecology, conservation and land management across the African continent (and Australia), with emphasis on giraffe related activities across Africa. His experience in the field of giraffe conservation is unique. He is well versed in individual field projects, supervision of students, population and countrywide assessments, and an expert advisor on subspecies conservation strategies. Julian has conducted numerous conservation expeditions across the continent, including in Botswana, DRC, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Niger, Uganda and Zambia, to name a few. Julian holds a Ph.D. in Biological Science from the University of Sydney, Australia based on his work with the ecology of the desert-dwelling giraffe in Namibia's northwest. His diverse skill base provides a solid foundation from which GCF can grow and help support giraffe conservation throughout Africa.
